Year 2

Please click the document below to see what your child will be learning this term-

Week beginning Tuesday 2nd May

This week in Maths we are reviewing addition crossing tens. Please check in with your child to see if they can show you using a ten's and one's column. In English we are continuing to read the Hodgeheg and are focussing on understanding comprehension questions and using the text to help us answer them. In RE we will uncover what happened to Jesus in the days following the resurrection. In Science we continue to look at food chains and children will complete a food chain learning lots of new vocabulary - can they remember what herbivores, carnivores and omnivores are?

Reading

Your child will bring home 2 reading books which need to be read at home daily. Please remember to sign your child's reading record daily. We will also be reading them at school in our groups and so these, along with reading records, need to be in bookbags every day.

Maths

Timestables rockstars

Last term we worked really hard on multiplication and division - which will support your children with fractions. Please continue to use TTRS in conjunction with numbots to support their mental arithmetic.

Please encourage your child to log in to TTRS for their homework as well as Numbots. You can access this using the same log in as your numbots account. Please begin to use the 'Jamming' section to earn coins for practicing the 2, 5 and 10 timestables. Please reassure your child that we use these everyday within our math when we count in 2s/5s and 10s!

Numbots

If you have not already done so, please complete up to at least level 26 in 'story mode' to unlock 'challenge mode'. Once you have done this, please complete the addition and subtraction challenges to support your child's learning in class this week. You can complete them as many times as you like - the more you practise, the quicker you will become at answering and therefore you will begin to move up the leader board and challenge your classmates!

Spelling

This week we are looking at words where the /er/ and /or/ sounds are spelled ‘or’ and ‘ar’. For further embedding of the knowledge, don't forget - your children can write these out and practise their spellings off line too!

We have added a grammar and punctuation quiz to the homework, this aims to support your child in understanding parts of a sentence and use of certain words and punctuation marks, which will ultimately guide your children to improve their writing and reading skills!
