Year 2 Trip to Dover Castle
In History, we have been learning about castles. On our trip, the children were able to see first hand what life would have been like in a castle. They were able to pretend they were living there and learnt about some of the challenges they might have faced. The children were able to look over the English Channel to see how close France is to England and why in the past Dover Castle was an important defence for England.
Science Day
The whole school had a fantastic time celebrating Science Day. In Year 2, we were finding out how to stop an apple from turning brown once it is cut open. The children tested different liquids and we monitored the pieces of apple every 15 minutes to observe any changes. The children found out that the fruit juice worked best, to stop the apple from turning brown.
Year 2's Pocahontas Walk to Gravesend
In History we learnt about Pocahontas' life and and why her story is important to Gravesend. The children were able to see the mural of Pocahontas outside Gravesend train station and her statue in the grounds of St. George's Church, the children were able to see how close the church was to The River Thames. We explored inside the Church and found a stained glass window of Pocahontas, a tapestry re-telling her story, a family tree and lots more information about her. All the children thoroughly enjoyed exploring and finding out new information.
Year 2 D&T
The children were challenged to make a bear for Attendance Ted when he visits their classrooms. They had to test different 3D shapes to see which was the sturdiest shape to use for the legs of the chair. The children then made their chairs using masking tape and paper. This week we will start to evaluate the chairs to identify what worked well and what we might change to improve them.
