Year 1

Year one meet the parents talk

Term 5 has arrived!

This term we are reading the book 'The Jolly Postman' by Alan Ahlberg. So far we have read only the first few pages and researched about what a post worker does as part of his job.

In Maths we have been learning to count in 2s, 5s and 10s. The links below are some good games you can play with your child to help them with this -

This term we are also extremely lucky to have lesson with Tom who is a specialised sports coach. During these sessions we have been working on the importance of listening to each other. Within our second lesson he made the children wear blindfolds and their partner had to direct them around the hall and over obstacles. All the children were very good!

Curriculum overview Term 5

Baby ducklings

We were very egg-xcited to have eggs delivered during our recent science week. The children were able to observe how the ducklings hatched and then how the ducklings grew! We were shocked at how quickly they grew. We also learnt about what the baby ducklings need to stay healthy!.

Week 1

This week we have started reading the book 'Beegu'. The children have enjoyed creating their own descriptions of Beegu. They have also learnt how to 'hot seat' a character. The children were able to think of questions they would like to ask Beegu.

Week Commencing 2nd January

Happy New Year!

This week in Art, we learnt about primary and secondary colours. The children were introduced to the skill of printing. The children used lego bricks to create their own artistic piece of work. Some children overlapped their prints so secondary colours could be made.

Week Commencing 11th December

In Design and Technology this week, we made Traction Man a smoothie! The children learnt how to use the claw grip to safely cut a range of soft fruit such as bananas and strawberries. Our aim was to make a tasty but healthy smoothie from Traction Man, which we did successfully!

Monday 13th November

This week is Anti-Bullying week and we will be learning about being a good friend. As part of this we have been learning a song called "The Kindness Song". Please find the clip below.

We are also starting our latest History topic where we will be learning about Guy Fawkes and why we celebrate Bonfire Night.

The Kindness Song | Official Lyric Video | Songs for School

14th October

Please remember that this Tuesday (17th October) is our 'Wild' day. Children (and staff!) in  Year 1 can come dressed in wildly! During the day we will be celebrating our book of the term "Where the Wild Things Are".

13th October 2023

This term in Science, we have been learning all about the weather. This week we looked at how different seasons have different amounts of rainfall. Our big question was 'How can we measure the rain that falls?'. We learnt how rain gauges can help us measure how much rain has fallen and we had a go at making our own! Over the next week we will measure how much rain has fallen each day.
