Term 1
Week 1: What a fantastic start to the year! The Year 2 children look incredibly smart in their school uniforms, and we are so proud of the effort they have put into their schoolwork. If you have any questions or queries, please speak to your child's class teacher.
Week 2: Another great week in Year 2! The children have continued to settle in well and are taking everything in their stride. They have completed a wide range of work in all subjects, and are trying their very best to produce work they can be proud of. The children have now come home with a reading book. Please ensure that your child brings their reading book and reading record to school every day. As a reminder, homework is given out on a Friday and should be returned by the following Wednesday. If your child does not have a NumBots login, or if their login is not working, please speak to your child's class teacher who will be happy to help.
Week 3: This week, we introduced our new book, The Lonely Beast by Chris Judge. The children loved exploring the clues the Beast left behind and were amazed to discover that he had even come to visit us! Please remember to provide consent and payment for our upcoming trip to Leeds Castle. As a reminder, 2SD and 2SG will be visiting on Wednesday 7th October, and 2SA and 2SP will be visiting on Thursday 8th October. Please refer to the letter sent before the summer holidays and the reminder letter sent during the first week of term for full details about the trip.
Week 4: On Thursday 1st October 2026, we celebrated National Poetry Day by writing our own poems inspired by the theme of wonder and The Lonely Beast's journey. The children thought carefully about the things that would make The Beast feel curious, amazed, and full of wonder. Take a look at some of our fantastic work!

We have also continued to prepare for our trip to Leeds Castle by learning all about castles. We have explored what castles were used for, the different parts of a castle, and what life was like inside them. We are very excited for our trip and can't wait to put our learning into action!
Week 5: We were incredibly excited this week as it was finally time for our visit to Leeds Castle! Each class has written a short summary sharing their thoughts and favourite parts of the trip. From exploring the castle to speaking to a queen, there was so much to do and enjoy. Here's what each class had to say:
2SA: We went on our school trip to Leeds Castle and it was so much fun! We liked talking to the AI Queen and asking her lots of questions. It was interesting finding out her answers. We also got to explore the castle and learn new facts to help us with our history lessons. Finally we got to dress up as kings, queens and soldiers to end our perfect day. We really enjoyed our trip and look forward to the next one!
2SD: We enjoyed walking around the castle grounds and seeing things that we have never seen before! The train was one of the best parts of the whole trip. Lady Eleanor gave us lots of interesting information about her life in the past. We especially enjoyed dressing up and acting like kings and queens as it helped us to understand what their daily lives involved. The Knights were so cool! We felt excited when we saw their armour.
2SG: We loved visiting Leeds Castle. We especially liked the different outfits when we were kings and queens, and when we got to ride the land train. One of the best parts was going all the way down to the cellar. Even though it was raining, we had the best day ever!
2SP: Leeds Castle was so fun and amazing! There were lots of fun things to do like speak to Eleanor of Castille and ask her some questions. We were able to look around the castle and look at the features of a castle we have learnt about, but never seen in real life. We got to dress up as kings, queens and knights and learnt about their lives. We loved marching around in our costumes. It was the best trip ever!
